The Adressa-conversation at Kosmorama: Ibelin

Ibelin alene

Tuesday 5. March 18:00
Prinsen 6

The documentary film Ibelin has deeply moved audiences and has already garnered numerous awards. Director Benjamin Ree has been working on the documentary about Mats Steen, the World of Warcraft player born with a muscle disease who passed away at just 25 years old, for several years. "The story of the gamer whom parents thought died alone but found his community in video games is one of several examples of world-class Norwegian documentaries at the moment," wrote Adresseavisen's film critic Terje Eidsvåg. Benjamin Ree will visit Kosmorama for the premiere of Ibelin. How did he work on the film? What left an impression on him? And what did he learn from making the film about Mats and his online world?

The conversation will also include Beate Wold Hygen from NTNU Social Research. She has researched children, youth, and gaming for many years. From being almost disregarded at parent meetings, she suddenly gained more interest overnight when discussing video games - after Mats' story became known. The conversation will be moderated by Adresseavisen's Anne Dorte Lunås.

The Adressa Conversation at Kosmorama: Anders Hammer

The Takeover 1

Thursday 7. march 17:00
Prinsen 5

Journalist, author, and documentary filmmaker Anders Hammer is coming to Kosmorama with two of his films: Do Not Split (2020) and The Takeover (2023).

Anne Dorte Lunås from Adresseavisen will interview Anders Hammer after the screening of the films. He was there when the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, documented the Hong Kong demonstrators' protests against China, and now travels in and out of Ukraine. Anders Hammer has lived and traveled in war and conflict zones for many years. After working with Afghanistan for over 15 years, what are his thoughts on the current situation? How does he work? And what does he aim to achieve with his documentaries?

Do Not Split was nominated for an Oscar for Best Short Documentary and provides an ultra-close look at the demonstrations that erupted in Hong Kong in 2019. Over a year, the film follows pro-democracy demonstrators facing violent police opposition as they fight against laws supported by the Beijing government, threatening the freedom of Hong Kong residents.

Anders Hammer's latest film, The Takeover, shot in 2021 and 2022, documents Afghanistan's dramatic shift as the Taliban regained control of the country after the U.S. withdrawal. This has severe consequences for women's rights and everyday life, and the film closely follows both activists and the Taliban regime.

The event is a collaboration between Kosmorama and Adresseavisen.
Tickets for the event will be available from February 16th.
