Program Series: Relations
I the program series Relations Kosmorama show you films about the warm and tender, unity and loneliness, the dysfunctional and wonderful in meetings between people. The series consists of 10 films from around the world presenting different types of relations and encounters between people.
The Burdened
The couple Ahmed and Isra'a are struggling to make ends meet. Therefore, they are faced with a difficult decision when they realize that they are expecting their fourth child. Are they willing to defy the conservative norms to do what they believe is right for the family?
Radical
Teacher Sergio starts a new job at an elementary school in a poor village in northern Mexico. The place is burdened by violence, corruption, and cartel activity, which also negatively affects the school environment. Sergio decides to try new and radical approaches to trigger the academic curiosity of the students. He eventually discovers that the students have untapped potential, and some of them harbor significant talents.
Afire
For Leon and his friend Felix, the vacation takes an unexpected turn when they arrive at their holiday house. They find that a stranger named Nadja and her lover, Devid, have occupied the house. The new situation becomes a source of curiosity, jealousy, and uncertainty for aspiring writer Leon. Meanwhile, a fierce forest fire rages on the horizon.
The Teachers' Lounge
Idealistic teacher Carla finds herself caught in a dilemma after one of her students is accused of stealing from the school. Driven by her own sense of justice, she decides to investigate the case, taking on the role of a sort of detective. She becomes increasingly entangled in what becomes a difficult and painful situation.
First Case
Nora is a newly graduated lawyer who finds herself faced with a difficult and serious case: a teenage girl has disappeared, and a 19-year-old man is suspected to be involved in the disappearance. Nora encounters the stern police investigator Alexis, who is assigned to the same case, and they eventually develop an impossible relationship.
Close Your Eyes
A Spanish actor disappears without a trace – during the filming of a movie. Several years later, the director Miguel tries to find out what happened. He participates in a TV program about the disappearance and begins to unravel the inexplicable mystery.
Banel & Adama
The young couple Banel and Adama live in a small village in Senegal. They are deeply in love with each other and plan to move away to build a new future together. However, the villagers expect Adama to take over as the village leader, and when Adama refuses, tensions rise. The villagers face a drought, and they talk about an impending sandstorm. Is this a punishment for Adama's decision?
Monster
Saori discovers some strange behavioral changes in her son Minato and eventually learns that he has been bullied by his teacher. She confronts the teacher and the school, only to be met with evasion and half-hearted apologies. However, it is later revealed that her son himself has been bullying another student. From this starting point, the melodrama master Hirokazu Koreeda weaves together an elegant and engaging narrative marked by shifting perspectives, where the truth about the relationship between the two young classmates gradually unfolds and where the film's title can be interpreted in various ways.
Maria Montessori
The socialite Lili flees from Paris to Rome with her daughter Tina, who has a disability. There, she seeks out an institution for children with learning difficulties. Over time, the child undergoes unexpected development through the pedagogical methods of Maria Montessori. It turns out that the two women have much to learn from each other, especially Maria, who fights for respect and recognition in a male-dominated world and who has her own secrets.
Last Summer
The respected lawyer Anne lives with her husband Pierre and their two adopted daughters. When Theo, Pierre's 17-year-old son from a previous relationship, moves in with them, Anne starts an intense affair with her stepson. In doing so, she jeopardizes both her marriage and her career.
