Program series: Mennesker imellomRelations
In the program series Mennesker imellom, Kosmorama presents films about the warmth and vulnerability, the sense of community and the loneliness, the dysfunctional and the wonderful aspects of encounters between people. The series consists of 10 films from around the world that explore different types of relationships and human interactions.
CALLE MÁLAGA
Against her will, Maria is forced into a retirement home so that her daughter can sell the apartment she lives in. Refusing to accept this fate, Maria takes matters into her own hands and returns to where she truly belongs. With the help of local friends and second-hand dealer Abslam, she sets out to reclaim both her apartment and the life she loves – if necessary, in secret. Meanwhile, the sale of the apartment draws ever closer.
DJ AHMET
In a small village in North Macedonia lives 15-year-old Ahmet. He herds sheep for his strict father and takes care of his younger brother Naim. Everything changes when he stumbles upon a rave party deep in the forest and meets Aya, a girl soon to be married off against her will. Their encounter sparks both a budding artistic dream and a growing romance – one that quickly clashes with the village’s traditional norms.
Enzo
Sixteen-year-old Enzo defies his wealthy family’s strict expectations by abandoning the academic path and starting an apprenticeship as a bricklayer. The new work environment is rough, unfamiliar, and demanding – but it also offers him a space to explore who he is beyond his family’s framework. There, he meets Vlad, a charismatic Ukrainian who both challenges and inspires him. This encounter becomes a turning point in Enzo’s search for identity and freedom.
ERUPJCA
Charli XCX stars as Bethany in this fresh and playful film by Pete Ohs, who also directed The True Beauty of Being Bitten by a Tick, which is also screening at the 2026 edition of Kosmorama as part of the View Askew program series.
Bethany is on vacation in Poland with her boyfriend Rob, who – much to her dismay – appears to be planning a marriage proposal. In an attempt to escape reality, Bethany reconnects with a former friend, Nel, a reunion that tends to trigger powerful and explosive outbursts – quite literally.
Father Mother Sister Brother
Visionary director Jim Jarmusch returns with Father Mother Sister Brother, a distinctive and multifaceted anthology film exploring intricate family relationships. The film follows three families in the United States, Dublin, and Paris, as siblings reunite with one another or with their parents.
Featuring a star-studded cast including Cate Blanchett, Adam Driver, and Tom Waits, the film invites us into quiet moments of intimacy, identity, and belonging. Winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, it offers a meditative cinematic experience that balances humor and melancholy in true Jarmusch fashion.
PARADIS (THE LAST RESORT)
Louise, Mikkel, and their two daughters are on a sun-soaked holiday in what appears to be an idyllic resort paradise. Beneath the surface, however, overcrowded rubber boats carrying desperate refugees arrive on the small island. The family’s all-inclusive bubble bursts when they accidentally hit an Afghan man with their car. Later, the stranger shows up at their hotel asking for help. Louise and Mikkel believe it is the right thing to do – but their good intentions soon lead to unforeseen and increasingly serious consequences.
Renoir
In late-1980s Japan, eleven-year-old Fuki struggles to cope with her father’s terminal illness and her mother’s impending breakdown. Seeking refuge in fantasy, she explores everything from imagined telepathy to inappropriate phone calls to a dating service. At the intersection of daydreams and reality, Fuki learns new things about life – and about herself.
ROMERÍA
Carla Simón has created a warm and sensuous film about memories, family secrets, and a young woman’s search for belonging. Eighteen-year-old Marina, orphaned at a young age, needs a signature from her biological family in order to apply for a university scholarship. She travels to Galicia on Spain’s Atlantic coast to meet the grandparents she has never known. What begins as a simple task opens the door to a complex network of relatives – welcoming, hesitant, and resistant alike.
Sound of falling
Mascha Schilinski’s Sound of Falling is a family saga spanning a hundred years and four generations of women on a farm in northern Germany. Through Alma, Erika, Angelika, and Lenka, a pattern of memory, trauma, and desire emerges. Although they live in different periods of Germany’s recent history – from the early 20th century to the present – their lives intertwine as time itself seems to dissolve.
The Currents
Fashion designer Lina appears to be at the peak of her career. After an awards ceremony in Switzerland, she impulsively jumps from a bridge. She survives – but when she returns home, something has fundamentally changed. Fear takes hold of her daily life, and water now triggers panic. From showers to rainfall outside the window, everything becomes threatening. The distance between Lina, her husband, and their daughter grows.
