Sixteen-year-old Enzo defies his wealthy family’s strict expectations by abandoning the academic path and starting an apprenticeship as a bricklayer. The new work environment is rough, unfamiliar, and demanding – but it also offers him a space to explore who he is beyond his family’s framework. There, he meets Vlad, a charismatic Ukrainian who both challenges and inspires him. This encounter becomes a turning point in Enzo’s search for identity and freedom.
Read moreThe film sensitively portrays how class background, masculinity, and performance pressure shape young people’s choices. Enzo’s struggle to find his place is both moving and painful, especially as his parents attempt to push him back onto what they consider a more respectable path. The film’s realistic approach brings us close to Enzo’s insecurity, stubbornness, and longing to be seen on his own terms.
Originally intended to be directed by Laurent Cantet, best known for the Palme d’Or-winning The Class (2008), the project was taken over by Robin Campillo after Cantet’s death in 2024. Campillo, who previously directed the powerful HIV drama BPM (Beats per Minute) (2017), creates a warmer and more luminous film here – while remaining just as relevant.
