Mascha Schilinski’s Sound of Falling is a family saga spanning a hundred years and four generations of women on a farm in northern Germany. Through Alma, Erika, Angelika, and Lenka, a pattern of memory, trauma, and desire emerges. Although they live in different periods of Germany’s recent history – from the early 20th century to the present – their lives intertwine as time itself seems to dissolve.

With its non-linear structure, the film becomes a haunting meditation on inheritance, pain, and female resilience. Like a faded photograph, it lingers and grows in the mind long after the screening.
Sound of Falling received the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, where it was met with great acclaim.
