Dag Hoel has been actively involved in several local production companies and was one of the founders of the documentary film company Faction Film in 2004.

The company was influential in documentary film production in the Trøndelag region for several years, and today he runs his own production company.

He is perhaps best known in Trondheim as the producer of the film Trondheimsreisen. The film premiered at Kosmorama in 2018 and was a major success with audiences. Following Trondheimsreisen, he restored and produced a number of local historical films, making him a significant contributor to Norwegian film heritage.

In recent years, Hoel has become a recognized international producer, particularly through co-productions of fiction and documentary films originating in South America.

These films have received significant international recognition and have been awarded prizes and nominations at numerous international film festivals, including in Venice, Berlin, Tribeca, and most recently in Havana.
