The program for this year’s Olavskino is now ready, and over the course of seven days, Olavsfest will present two pre-premieres of new Norwegian documentaries. The program opens with the screening of the documentary about war photographer Harald Henden, and includes several relevant films related to this year’s theme, Escape, a documentary about the artist Thåström, and a nostalgic return to Prima Vera’s Saga of Saint Olav.
Olavskino is a collaboration between Olavsfest, Trondheim Kino, and Kosmorama International Film Festival.
Every day during Olavsfest, current films are screened at 4:00 PM, with additional showings at 4:15 PM. All screenings take place at Prinsen Cinema Center.
This year’s program is as follows:
-
July 28: “Henden – Requiem for a Photographer” – with director Rune Denstad Langlo in attendance
-
July 29: “Samia” – followed by a post-screening conversation
-
July 30: “The Soloists” – followed by a post-screening conversation
-
July 31: “Tears of Gaza” – with director Vibeke Løkkeberg in attendance
-
August 1: “A Heart Is Always Red” – documentary about Thåström
-
August 2: “Prima Vera’s Saga of Saint Olav” – first screening after digital restoration
-
August 3: “Click the Link Below” – with director Audun Amundsen joining remotely
“We are very proud to host the world premiere of the documentary about photographer Harald Henden during Olavskino,” says Steinar Larsen, director of Olavsfest. “The film is directed by Trønder Rune Denstad Langlo, who will also bring selected photographs taken by Henden to be exhibited during Olavsfest.” The film’s score is composed by Olav Kvernberg, and it is set for general release in October.
In addition, the festival will offer a pre-premiere of the local documentary “Click the Link Below” by Audun Amundsen. He spent several years pursuing happiness by buying advice from well-known internet personalities. The film premieres in October.
Silje Engeness, director of Kosmorama International Film Festival, finds it exciting that yet another local director has chosen to preview their film at Olavskino.
“Audun is a very intriguing filmmaker, and his experiment of chasing happiness by diving into online success formulas is thought-provoking,” she says. “At the same time, I want to highlight the relevance of the films ‘Samia’ and ‘The Soloists’ to this year’s festival theme: Escape.”
Olavskino will also revisit some older films. “Tears of Gaza” by Vibeke Løkkeberg is just as relevant today as when it was released in 2010. The documentary “A Heart Is Always Red” about Thåström will also be shown the day before and after his concert in Borggården.
The restoration and renewed cinema screening of “Prima Vera’s Saga of Saint Olav” is thanks to a passionate team that secured funding to digitize Prima Vera’s cult classic from 1983.
Cinema director Arild Kalkvik is looking forward to revisiting the comedy from the iconic trio:
“We’re thrilled to bring the film back to the big screen, especially considering that a major new film about Saint Olav is currently in the works,” says Kalkvik.
Director Rune Denstad Langlo:
“It’s a great honor for us that the film is premiering at Olavskino, in my hometown Trondheim. I look forward to meeting the audience and talking about Harald, his photographs, and our documentary.”
