Welcome to "Bula Express!"
Once again, we are collaborating with Bula Neobistro on a culinary cinema experience during Kosmorama! This year, we invite you to a screening of Chungking Express at Prinsen Cinema, followed by a five-course dinner at Bula inspired by the film. Here you can read more about why Reneé Fagerhøi, general manager of Bula Neobistro, chose this particular film!
Where: Prinsen Cinema / Bula Neobistro
When: Wednesday, March 4 at 17:00
1994 – my absolute favourite film year!
An insane number of great films were released that year, and the list is far too long for me to even begin naming them. Just take a look – 1994 is pure cinematic gold. Chungking Express is of course one of them. Quentin Tarantino agrees, just saying.
Hong Kong: narrow streets, steam rising from pots and broths, smoke drifting up from charcoal grills, a jumble of tiny eateries and bars. We get acquainted with these spots – both with a particular guest and with the woman working there. You see those bottles on the counter – slightly grimy plastic squeeze-bottles filled with sauces that bubble, live, and ferment away. Sauces with personalities of their own. I want to taste everything.
You could take stills from every single scene in this film and hang them straight on a wall; the aesthetics are everything I love. Because what is it? It’s Hong Kong, baby. Neon signs. Herbs. Fermented chili. Grilled meat. Beer. Late nights. Noisy big city energy. Trench coat and sunglasses in the middle of the night. Brown pubs. Longing. And “California Dreamin’” by The Mamas & The Papas – all the time, every day, on repeat, non-stop.
This evening, we welcome you to “Bula Express,” where we’ll serve a seductive five-course menu with flavours from Hong Kong combined with the best ingredients from Trøndelag.
A warm welcome to culinary cinema at BulaBistro!
