Grevlingene (The Badgers)

02 33 32 20 grevlingene looking into pit

Where: Trondheim Kino

Grevlingene (The Badgers) is a mischievous adventure comedy for the whole family about friendship, big dreams, and the quest to find your place – in the Scouts and in the world.

Orphaned Bernt dreams of becoming a Scout, and sees a glimmer of hope when he manages to bluff his way into the local Scout troop, The Badgers. But things quickly get complicated at the clubhouse when his new foster mother, Gerd, forces herself in as co-leader of the troop. Gerd is bossy to the extreme and obsessively concerned with what can and cannot be said, determined to launch a Scout revolution that absolutely no one asked for. How will Bernt save The Badgers from Gerd – and himself from being exposed?

Grevlingene (The Badgers) is a warm-hearted, action-packed comedy about discovering who you are when the world tries to change you. The film received a major stamp of quality when it was invited to the family film program at none other than Locarno, one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious film festivals.

Mary and Max

Mary and max

Where: Cinemateket Trondheim

Mary Dinkle (Toni Collette) is a lonely 8-year-old girl living on the outskirts of Melbourne, Australia. By chance, she becomes pen pals with Max Horowitz (Philip Seymour Hoffman), an overweight 44-year-old man with Asperger’s syndrome who lives in chaotic New York. This marks the beginning of a friendship that spans over 20 years and two continents—a bond that, despite its ups and downs, ties together two people struggling to find their place in a confusing world.

Director Adam Elliot, who won an Academy Award for the animated short Harvie Krumpet in 2003, spent four years working on Mary and Max. With an impressively detailed animation style, he has created a warm and deeply moving film full of deliciously dark humor.

Mary and Max is, above all, about friendship, but it also touches on autism, taxidermy, psychiatry, alcoholism, where babies come from, obesity, kleptomania, sexual deviancy, trust, lustful dogs, religion, agoraphobia, and many, many more of life’s surprises.
