Monkey Man
Where: Trondheim Kino
Dev Patel (Lion, Slumdog Millionaire) makes his directorial debut with this action-packed revenge tale set in Mumbai.
Inspired by the legend of Hanuman, iconic for strength and courage in Hinduism, we meet Kid (Patel), who, after a traumatic childhood, hones his skills in an underground boxing environment. He harbors a plan to infiltrate an evil criminal elite by getting hired "on the floor," then taking down those who once took everything from him.
Monkey Man is filled with action and spectacular fight scenes, drawing early comparisons to the John Wick universe. Jordan Peele (Nope, Get Out) produces the film, while Dev Patel makes his directorial debut.
Infernal Affairs
Where: Cinemateket
Andrew Lau and Alan Mak created Infernal Affairs in 2002, followed by parts 2 and 3 in 2003. In the vein of The Godfather, these three films depict the power struggles within and between triads, and the police's efforts to dismantle them, weaving together violence, individual fates, and family destinies into a tight, dynamic, and thrilling narrative.
Yan (Tony Leung) is a veteran police officer who has spent decades undercover, infiltrating criminal syndicates. Ming (Andy Lau) is a young triad member who was planted within the police force years ago and has since risen to the rank of inspector. Both men are weary of living a secret and lonely existence in the gray area between good and evil.
The Departed
Where: streaming
If you're planning to watch Infernal Affairs at Cinemateket, it's perfect to follow up with Scorsese's remake, The Departed!
Colin Sullivan is a gangster who infiltrates the Boston police, while police officer Billy Costigan does the same - but within the underworld. When their respective undercover operations are at risk of being exposed, it also turns out they're on each other's trail.
