Afghan women fight for freedom with their voices as weapon

Fazila Amiri will arrive at Kosmorama with her highly relevant documentary AND STILL I SING. The film focuses on Afghan women's fight for fundamental human rights.

And Still I Sing is the story about three Afghan women who fight for their rights with music as weapon. The pop star and activist Aryana Sayeed is a mentor for two young and talented female singers: Zahra Elham and Sadiqa Madadgar. Both of them compete to become the first female winner of the televised song contest Afghan Star. Their lives become increasingly more difficult as the Taliban are on their way to retake the power in the country. This documentary describes the enormous courage needed from influential women to stand up for change in the Afghan society.

Director Fazila Amiri has created a warm portrait of these women whose fight for fundamental human rights often is a fight for their own lives. But this is also a fight of solidarity and hope, and the stories that are depicted deserve attention from all of us. Fazila Amiri is our guest at Kosmorama. The screenings of And Still I Sing are a cooperation between Kosmorama and Human International Documentary Festival in Oslo and are funded by The Fritt Ord Foundation.
