British-Palestinian director Basil Khalil, a previous Oscar-nominee for the beautiful short film Ave Maria (2015), presents an impressively refreshing, cheeky and appealing feature film debut.

With its blend of light-hearted farce, irreverent sense of irony and sly political commentary, A Gaza Weekend is both an artistically robust and highly entertaining film which, unsurprisingly, won the Film Critics' prize and became an audience favourite at the Toronto Film Festival this autumn.

About the director
Basil Kahlil (b. 1981, Nazareth) is a British-Palestinian filmmaker. He was nominated for both the Oscar and the Palme d'Or in Cannes for best short film with Ave Maria (2015), which was a success and collected several awards. With last year's feature film debut, A Gaza Weekend (2022), Kahlil shows that this was hardly a coincidence. At the Toronto Film Festival, the film won the FIPRESCI Critics Award, an award given to good and innovative films.
