Program Teaser: Five New Titles coming to Kosmorama 2026!
Week 10 is fast approaching, and we’re excited to share five new titles for this year’s program! Among them is Bi Gan’s epic sci-fi film Resurrection and Jim Jarmusch’s latest feature, starring a star-studded cast. We’re also delighted to present Carolina Cavalli’s (director of Amanda, featured at Kosmorama in 2023) second feature film—The Kidnapping of Arabella!
Father Mother Sister Brother
The distinctive director Jim Jarmusch is back! Father Mother Sister Brother is a characteristic and complex anthology film that explores intricate family relationships. The film follows three families in the USA, Dublin, and Paris, where siblings are reunited with each other or with their parents.
Featuring a star-studded ensemble including Cate Blanchett, Adam Driver, and Tom Waits, the film allows us glimpses into quiet moments of intimacy, identity, and belonging. Winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, it offers a meditative cinematic experience that balances humor and melancholy in true Jarmusch fashion.
Renoir
In Japan in the late 1980s, eleven-year-old Fuki struggles to come to terms with her father’s terminal illness while her mother nears a breakdown. She turns to her imagination as an outlet, in everything from seemingly telepathic experiences to inappropriate calls to a dating service. In the space between daydream and reality, she learns new things about life and about herself.
The Kidnapping of Arabella
Carolina Cavalli is back! The director gained recognition at Kosmorama in 2023 with her debut film Amanda, and now returns with another witty film starring Benedetta Porcaroli in the lead role.
Twenty-eight-year-old Holly is a lonely woman who feels that life did not quite turn out the way she had imagined. One evening, she suddenly meets the young and adventurous Arabella, who is eager to run away from home. After becoming convinced that Arabella is a younger version of herself from the past, Holly takes the girl on a journey in an attempt to change the course of her own life. This is the premise for a rather chaotic kidnapping adventure, infused with a generous dose of deadpan humor, exploring the challenge of coming to terms with life’s unexpected twists and turns.
My Father's Shadow
The film’s backdrop plays a crucial role in this story from Nigeria in the 1990s. Brothers Remi and Akin are not used to being allowed to accompany their father, but when Folarin has to travel to the big city of Lagos, he decides to take his sons with him. The boys bring along their savings to buy something nice in the city, while their father—who has not been paid for six months—desperately needs to recover the money he is owed. At the same time, Nigeria is plunged into political unrest.
Resurrection
Sometime in the future, humanity has given up dreaming in exchange for eternal life. A woman discovers a creature known as a “fantasmer,” still capable of dreaming. As the fantasmer’s life approaches its end, we dive together with the woman into the creature’s dreams and are taken on a fabulous journey.
With Resurrection, Bi Gan has directed a stylish and magnificent film featuring exquisite cinematography. Resurrection is not only a tribute to cinema through the ages, but also an exploration of the importance of dreams and art to humanity.
