Park Chan-wook’s latest cinematic tour de force showcases his signature qualities – unpredictable storytelling, dark humor, sharp satire, and subtle humanism. Inspired by Donald E. Westlake’s novel The Ax (1997) and its earlier adaptation by Costa-Gavras, the project has been in development since 2009.

Yvonne has experienced something terrible. When an old friend invites her to the countryside, she readily accepts. Instead of quiet days alone together, however, she is thrown into forced socializing with other guests, excessive amounts of homemade food, and unfamiliar party games. Something feels off. The unease slowly intensifies – and in the nearby forest, a tick waits to bite.
