Håvard Bustnes’s new documentary about the Fosen wind power controversy, La fjella leve, will be the opening film and will have its Norwegian premiere at Olavskino as part of Olavsfest on July 28.
The documentary La fjella leve by director Håvard Bustnes, produced by the Trondheim-based production company Up North, will be the opening film when Olavskino is held during Olavsfest this summer. Olavskino is a collaboration between Kosmorama, Olavsfest, and Trondheim Kino.
The film will have its world premiere at the renowned documentary film festival CPH:DOX in Copenhagen this weekend, before later being screened for audiences in Trondheim and Trøndelag as the opening film of Olavskino.
Olavskino is a collaboration between Olavsfest, Trondheim Kino, and Kosmorama, and presents a curated film program each year during the festival.
- We are very pleased to open Olavskino with such a timely and powerful film, created by a director from Trondheim. Håvard Bustnes is one of our most acclaimed documentary filmmakers, both nationally and internationally, and we are truly looking forward to showing his film to audiences here at home, say the organizers.
La fjella leve takes its starting point in the widely discussed Fosen wind power controversy. The conflict surrounding the wind power development on Fosen has received significant regional, national, and international attention after the Supreme Court of Norway ruled in 2021 that the license granted to the wind power plants violated the human rights of the Sámi reindeer herders.
Despite the ruling, the wind turbines are still standing, and the conflict between energy policy, Indigenous rights, and the green transition has continued to shape public debate in Norway.
The film portrays the struggle over land, rights, and culture in the face of Europe’s largest onshore wind power project, and follows the people at the center of one of the most fundamental rights conflicts in recent Norwegian history.
When La fjella leve is screened as the opening film of Olavskino, the story returns to the region where the conflict itself is unfolding.
Olavskino is a film collaboration between Olavsfest, Trondheim Kino, and Kosmorama. The initiative aims to present powerful cinematic experiences and relevant stories to audiences in Trondheim, inspired by the annual theme of Olavsfest—which in 2026 is Truth.
