Trango

TRANGO Dag Kolsrud 1984 Carvasal Film Field Productions Norsk filmdistribusjon

Where: Trondheim Kino

A grand climbing documentary driven by the desire to live life to the fullest.

Two Norwegian expeditions in the Trango mountain massif are considered milestones in international climbing history. In the documentary film Trango, the climbers open up for the first time about their extreme experiences.

Inspired by one of the greatest achievements in climbing history, legendary climber Robert Caspersen and his team embark on an expedition to the Himalayas with a dream of being the first to conquer one of the world’s highest rock faces, the Trango Pulpit. The Norwegian expedition in 1984 was groundbreaking—a milestone in international climbing history—but it also had a dark side that would deeply affect the entire climbing community. Trango portrays two expeditions, 15 years apart, exploring the extreme risks, personal sacrifices, and lifelong pursuit of impossible dreams in some of the world’s most unforgiving mountain terrain.

Som du ser meg (I belong)

Somdusermeg

Where: Cinemateket in Trondheim

In connection with the conversation between Silje Engeness and Dag Johan Haugerud at Trondheim Public Library on October 21, we are, in collaboration with Cinemateket, presenting screenings of several of Haugerud's films this week.

What happens to us when people stop behaving the way they’re expected to? A nurse finds herself in a workplace conflict because she switches to English when she gets nervous. A translator compromises her integrity when she’s persuaded to translate a book she doesn’t believe in. An elderly woman and her daughter feel humiliated when a relative offers them a gift of one million kroner.

Beware of Children (Som du ser meg) is both humorous and tender, sharp and nuanced — and above all, a wonderfully acted film about how people who act out of integrity and emotion are often perceived as difficult in a society where the ideal is to behave rationally.

Piken med nålen (The girl with the needle)

Piken med nålen

Where: Streaming

The Girl with the Needle is inspired by a true and shocking story from Copenhagen in the aftermath of the First World War. Factory worker Karoline’s husband never returns from the war. Unable to pay her rent, she becomes pregnant after an affair with the factory owner — and loses her job. When all hope seems lost, she meets Dagmar, who runs an illegal adoption agency. The two women form a close bond, until a horrifying revelation tears everything apart.

The film premiered at Cannes, where it competed in the main competition. It has since been praised for its atmospheric black-and-white cinematography and period-accurate settings infused with a haunting, almost horror-like tone. Viewers can glimpse inspiration from German Expressionist cinema, Carl Theodor Dreyer, and David Lynch.

The result is a captivating and original true-crime drama featuring powerful performances from Vic Carmen Sonne and Trine Dyrholm. The film is also nominated for an Academy Award for Best International Feature Film.
