Enzo

The 16-year-old Enzo defies his wealthy family’s strict expectations by abandoning the academic path and instead starting an apprenticeship as a bricklayer. The new work environment is rough, unfamiliar, and demanding, but it is also a place where he can explore who he is outside his family’s expectations. Here, he meets Vlad, a charismatic Ukrainian who both challenges and inspires him. This becomes a turning point in Enzo’s search for identity and freedom.

Persepolis is based on Marjane Satrapi’s autobiographical graphic novel of the same name. Marjane grows up as Iran undergoes the Islamic Revolution and is plunged into war with Iraq. Marjane’s parents are radical intellectuals. As women are forced to become increasingly covered in the streets of Tehran and thousands of ordinary people are imprisoned, the Satrapi home remains filled with good friends and lively parties as usual. But as conditions in Iran become increasingly difficult, her parents decide to send Marjane to Europe.
Persepolis is both shocking, moving, and humorous – and was, unsurprisingly, banned in Iran.

Autumn is 17 years old and discovers that she is pregnant. Since she cannot have an abortion in her home state of Pennsylvania without her parents’ consent, she and her cousin travel to New York to seek care at an abortion clinic. With keen observations and an impressive attention to detail, director Eliza Hittman tells a story about experiences that far too many people can relate to.
