A Light that never goes out

37 ALTNGO by Mikko Parttimaa

Where: Trondheim Kino

Pauli is a successful flutist who returns to his hometown after a mental breakdown brings his career to a halt. There, he reconnects with Iiris, a former school friend who creates experimental, noise-based music. Fascinated by her informal and intuitive approach to making music, Pauli gradually lets go of his perfectionism and joins her in a sonic collaboration built on improvisation and exploration.

The film offers an introspective look at creativity and music as a form of therapy. Blending dreamlike amateur rehearsals with the atmosphere of small-town life, it premiered in the ACID sidebar at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. The result is a perfect symphony of quirky characters and dynamic sound design.

Att angora en brygga 001

Att angöra en brygga (Docking the Boat)

Where: Cinemateket Trondheim

The Apple War director and writer Tage Danielsson’s hugely popular comedy is, on the surface, a harmless farce filled with slapstick and visual gags. At the same time, it can be viewed as a celebration of anarchy and joyful absurdity within the otherwise orderly social-democratic model that characterized Sweden in the 1960s.

The plot itself is almost beside the point, but in brief: a group of people gathers on an island to celebrate a summer evening, only to encounter difficulties mooring their sailboat at the dock. From this seemingly trivial premise emerges a dazzling display of pure physical comedy. Scandinavian cinema has rarely—if ever—produced anything quite as delightfully chaotic. The film draws on a rich tradition of comic techniques, taking inspiration from figures such as Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, and the Marx Brothers.

(Picassos äventyr) The Adventures of Picasso

Picassos eventyr

Where: Streaming

The Adventures of Picasso is an outrageous comedy about the artist Pablo Picasso, following his life from his birth in rural Spain to his travels between Madrid and Paris as he develops his artistic talent.

Filled with absurd humor, satire, and playful anachronisms, the film offers a wildly imaginative take on the life of one of the world's most celebrated artists. Rather than aiming for historical accuracy, it delights in comic invention and eccentric storytelling, creating a unique and thoroughly entertaining portrait of Picasso.
