400 blows - 35mm
Where: Cinemateket Trondheim
The 400 Blows was one of the films that marked the beginning of the French New Wave. François Truffaut was deeply concerned with the human condition and demonstrates a rare sensitivity and precision in both character portrayal and depiction of environment. The trials of 13-year-old Antoine Doinel are presented with autobiographical tenderness.
Despite the film’s undeniably serious themes, its tone remains light and its style playful. The darker aspects are depicted with humor, the brighter ones with melancholy.
