Top Gun
Where: Trondheim Kino
Don’t miss the anniversary screening of Top Gun at Trondheim Kino this week!
The talented but impulsive fighter pilot Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is selected for the U.S. Navy’s elite Top Gun school, where the best pilots compete to become number one. Maverick’s unconventional style creates both conflict and rivalry, especially with the disciplined pilot Iceman (Val Kilmer).
A tragic accident shakes Maverick’s confidence and forces him to confront both personal loss and his own fears. When he is finally put to the test in a real combat situation, he must prove whether he can trust his instincts—and take responsibility as both a pilot and a human being.

Rosa Luxemburg (35mm)
Where: Cinemateket
Rosa Luxemburg is Margarethe von Trotta’s remarkable portrayal of one of the most fascinating figures in modern European political history. After fighting for women’s rights in Poland and Germany in the early 20th century, the Marxist revolutionary Rosa Luxemburg founded the Spartacus League—later the Communist Party of Germany—before being murdered at the age of forty-seven.
Centered around the outstanding performance of Barbara Sukowa as Rosa Luxemburg, the film traces Luxemburg’s political and moral development from journalist and writer to dissident opposing the party line, and finally to imprisoned pacifist. The result is a nuanced and deeply complex portrait that brings her vividly to life on screen.

Offeret (The Sacrifice)
Where: Streaming
Since we’re on the topic of films turning 40 this year, we recommend The Sacrifice, Ingmar Bergman’s masterpiece directed by Andrei Tarkovsky. This was the final film Tarkovsky made before he died in December of the same year it premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.
On his birthday, cultural journalist Alexander is visited by friends and enjoys time with his family. But during the day, war suddenly breaks out and the world stands on the brink of destruction. In desperation, Alexander prays to God to restore the world to its pre-war state—but such a restoration cannot happen without a sacrifice.
