Kampai! For the Love of Sake gives us a fascinating insight into one of the most important components of the Japanese kitchen, namely sake, a fermented drink of polished rice. This documentary sheds light on the beverage’s production process and great cultural significance. We see the perspectives of three men who share the same passion for sake - a Japanese sake brewer, an American sake expert and a Brit who moved to Japan and ended up being Japan's first foreign sake brewer.
Japan's national drink has a history spanning many hundreds of years, and has only recently become increasingly popular around the world. How will the ancient and proud tradition hold up in the face of the global market? This is one of many questions that director Mirai Konishi asks when he follows the three men's journey into the mysterious world of sake.
Kosmorama and Britannia Hotel welcome you to a screening of the film Kampai! For the Love of Sake, followed by a tasting of sake.
After the film screening, Executive Head Bartender Øyvind Lindgjerdet and his team of trained sake sommeliers will be offering a tasting, where you can learn more about sake and try four different types in an hour-long tasting event. (NB! The event is in Norwegian)
Later in the evening, a table will be set aside at Trondheim’s iconic Britannia Bar for those keen on keeping the evening going. Seize this unique opportunity to get a fascinating insight into one of Japan's proudest traditions!
