Identifying Features takes us behind the headlines of illegal immigrants and Donald Trump's wall, providing us with a much needed human perspective on a far less visible side of the story: how large numbers of immigrants pursuing a better life in the United States are kidnapped, robbed and killed even before they reach the border.

Identifying Features is a composed yet compelling drama about migration, family and loss. Hollywood Reporter named director Fernanda Valadez’ debut film the arrival of a much-needed voice. Valadez has deservedly garnered worldwide acclaim, winning the World Cinema Dramatic audience award and Special Jury Award for Best Screenplay at the Sundance Film Festival in 2020.

Fernanda Valadez

Fernanda Valadez is a Mexican director, screenwriter and producer born in Guanajuato in 1981. Her first short film, Of This World (2010), was named Best Mexican Short Film of the Year. She graduated from the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfia (CCC) in Mexico City with the short film 400 Maletas (2014), which won the Mexican equivalent of the Student Academy Awards. Identifying Features is her first feature film.
