The title Gaza Mon Amour is undeniably reminiscent of Alain Resnai's Hiroshima Mon Amour (1959), a tragic and romantic classic about an affair in bomb-devastated Hiroshima. Gaza Mon Amour is a captivating love story that takes place in the backdrop of war-torn Gaza. We meet sixty-year-old fisherman Issa, who is secretly in love with a woman who works in the local market. He is constantly trying to work up the courage to ask if she wants to marry him, while his sister takes matters into her own hands to find a woman she considers to be a more suitable wife. One day Issa catches a statue of the Greek god Apollo in his fishing net, which leads to a series of meetings with the Palestinian police.
Gaza Mon Amour is a charming and offbeat story about love and everyday life in a testing environment. This is the Nasser brothers' second feature film, and it has already won several nominations and awards at international film festivals, including the Netpac Award at the Toronto Film Festival, for being a «heartwarming, thought-provoking and poetic tale of unspoken emotions, depicting everyday life in Gaza».
This film is available at Kosmorama Digital 8th – 28th March.
