13-year-old Bastien and his family go on holiday to a small cabin by a quiet lake, where he meets the slightly older Chloé. Bastien is clearly no longer a child, but nor is he an adult, and Chloé guides him along the path of youthful desire. At the same time, it turns out that there is something mysterious about this lake.
Read moreFalcon Lake may at first glance seem like an ordinary coming-of-age film, but it doesn't take long before it wades into waters rarely associated with the genre. The film's gothic atmosphere and poetic expressions are encapsulated in its beautiful, lush 16mm photography.
Debutante Charlotte Le Bon has received extensive praise from critics for her rock-solid direction. Also featuring young rising star Joseph Engel in his role as Bastien, this is a delightful genre-bending movie about a curious boy’s first crush and the excitement of what life has to offer.
About the director
Charlotte Le Bon (b. 1986, Montreal) started her career as a model, something which she really hated, and then continued as an actress before turning to directing. In 2022, she debuted with the feature film Falcon Lake at the Cannes Film Festival. The film is, like Le Bon herself, bilingual (English-French) and it is an adaptation of the graphic novel “Un sæur” by Bastian Vivès. For Falcon Lake, she won the Emerging Canadian Director award at the Vancouver Film Festival.
