The idyllic summer abruptly ends for sisters Ernesta and Juste and their families. What was meant to be a pleasant weekend at a lakeside vacation home takes a dark turn when a tragic accident occurs, putting everyone to the test.
The film explores trauma and family dynamics with a cool, detached gaze—often through long, static takes. The parallels to Austrian master Michael Haneke are undeniable, yet the film also develops its own original, fragmented narrative structure.
Director, screenwriter, and cinematographer Laurynas Bareisa presents the story in a non-chronological manner, carefully piecing together the narrative bit by bit to gradually reveal the bigger picture. Slowly but surely, the truth of what happened on that fateful summer day by the lake is uncovered, along with its lasting impact on both families.
