Finnish architect Alvar Aalto (1898–1976) is known as one of the great pioneers of modernist architecture and design. In the documentary Aalto, we observe the striking architecture he has created while we are also granted access to his personal life and the bond he had with his first wife, architect Aino Aalto.

Among other things, Alvar is known for having designed Finlandia House in Helsinki as well as a residential area in the city of Seinäjoki. Outside of Finland, he was best known for his furniture design, though he has also designed student housing at MIT in Boston, an art museum in Shiraz in Iran, and housing in Zurich.
