Inger (Marie Takvam) is in an identity crisis. At 50, she finds herself with nothing to do after having been a stay-at-home housewife her entire adult life. When her husband gets her a job outside the home, and things do not go as Inger hoped, she completely breaks down.

Vibeke Løkkeberg's debut film was praised for its bold and honest storytelling but also sparked controversy. The nude scenes featuring Takvam led to what the media dubbed the "butt feud," and some critics argued that the film offered too little hope for women wanting to break free from the housewife role. At the same time, The Revelation highlighted both women's vulnerability and the fight for equality.
