In 1977, Trondheim’s city council decided to build a motorway straight through the historic district of Bakklandet. “Tear it all down,” they declared about the city’s old wooden houses. This struggle permanently reshaped Trondheim.

Today, the city faces new threats – not bulldozers, but gentrification, micro-apartments, and housing speculation. What is at stake now? And how can a city’s soul be protected when the sense of collective action that once made change possible has faded?

Trondheimskampen is both a historical and urgent documentary about activism past and present, told through the personal story of Barbro Rønning, activist and witness for over 50 years. Using rare archival material, new footage, poetic city portraits, and original music by Henning Sommerro, the film traces a journey from political struggle to personal reflection.

The film premieres at Kosmorama and will be followed by a panel discussion.
