In Subtraction we meet married couple Farzaneh and Jalal. One day while at work as a driving instructor she finds that her husband is in town, despite the fact he said he’d be away. She decides to follow him and spots him entering another woman's house.

There he meets Bita, a woman who looks exactly like his wife. Bita shows him a picture of her husband, who looks exactly like Jalal. Who are these doppelgangers?
