As sirens wail, freshly baked bread rolls out of bakeries and children play in the streets. Songs of a Slow Burning Earth is an intimate audiovisual diary about a country at war, and how people adapt to the most dreadful living conditions. It explores love for the homeland and concerns for the future. Through eyewitness accounts, the audience gains a true insight into what it is like to live in a state of constant conflict.

Director Olha Zhurba has gathered stories and impressions across regions and generations in her third feature film. From the older generation forced to leave their homes to children turning war into play. Zhurba's focus on the people at the heart of a daily life few can imagine makes Songs of a Slow Burning Earth an important testimony for both the present and the future.

This film is presented in collaboration with Movies on War.
