Sometime in the future, humanity has given up dreaming in exchange for eternal life. A woman discovers a creature known as a “fantasmer,” still capable of dreaming. As the fantasmer’s life approaches its end, we dive together with the woman into the creature’s dreams and are taken on a fabulous journey.
The film’s six chapters each explore a different dream, set in distinct cinematic eras spanning the past century. Each segment is shaped by the film language characteristic of its period, yet the film impressively maintains a clear and cohesive overall vision.
With Resurrection, Bi Gan has directed a stylish and magnificent film featuring exquisite cinematography. Resurrection is not only a tribute to cinema through the ages, but also an exploration of the importance of dreams and art to humanity.
