How do you become a good father? Is there a formula? Gunnar himself grew up without a father and instead turned to Roald Amundsen in search of a masculine role model. He tries to navigate the role of fatherhood as best he can, makes some clumsy missteps along the way, and gradually allows his son to take more responsibility for his own life. But the son’s ambitions and thirst for adventure lead him into a dangerous world, far beyond his father’s control.

This extraordinary and powerful story shows how life can suddenly change course—in ways that are both unexpected and unforgiving. While the film is an intimate and personal portrait of a single family, it also speaks to something universal about fatherhood and masculinity in our time.
