Maryam left Iran after the 1979 revolution and built a new life in the United States. Her elderly parents remain in Tehran. Through surveillance cameras, Maryam follows their daily routines – and their safety. Life on the screen becomes both a source of comfort and a painful reminder that she and her parents live on opposite sides of the globe.

The film is told through surveillance footage, old home videos, and Maryam’s quiet voice-over. Positioned at the intersection of documentary and art film, it creates space for reflection and symbolic imagery.

Recent developments in Iran have made the film’s themes even more urgent. Past Future Continuous is a quiet yet deeply affecting film about life in exile, irreversible time, and a family that was not allowed to be a family.
