A paranoid, drug-addicted, left-wing ex-revolutionary and his 16-year-old daughter live in hiding under the aliases Bob and Willa Ferguson – though their real names are “Ghetto” Pat and Charlene Calhoun. Paul Thomas Anderson returns with an undisputed masterpiece. Loosely based on Thomas Pynchon’s novel Vineland, the adaptation thrives on the specific strengths of cinema at every level. Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn are in top form, supported by memorable roles from Benicio Del Toro, Regina Hall, and Teyana Taylor, alongside a remarkable film debut by Chase Infiniti. Michael Bauman’s cinematography and Jonny Greenwood’s score form integral parts of an exquisite whole. This rare blend of high art, gripping entertainment, and razor-sharp social insight is something truly special.

This film is part of the Reprise program, in which five Kosmorama staff members select memorable cinema experiences from 2025. Head of film Mads Outzen chose One Battle After Another, saying:

Although I saw many great films last year, the choice for this series was obvious. Paul Thomas Anderson didn’t just make one of the year’s best films – he also delivered the single greatest cinema experience. Scene after scene bursts with intense action, absurd humor, and a thrilling roller-coaster ride in both narrative and cinematic terms.
