World War II is coming to an end, and several hundred thousand Germans are fleeing to Denmark. The captivating story raises many difficult questions: What is more important to you - preserving your belonging in the local community or following your human conscience? In light of today's refugee situation, it is also easy to see the film's relevance.

Anti-German sentiment during the war is not often addressed in film, but Before It Ends is a clear exception. The film gives a nuanced picture of a dark chapter in Danish history that is rarely illuminated. Many of the scenes were filmed at Ryslinge Højskole, which in 1945 served as an internment camp for civilian German refugees. This makes the film even more authentic.
