Harald Henden was one of Norway’s most renowned war photographers. For 35 years, he worked for the newspaper VG in war zones around the world, documenting the horrors of conflict at close range. Several of his photographs have become iconic. In this powerful documentary, we meet Henden after he has been diagnosed with incurable cancer. We are given rare insight into the man behind the images, as he looks back on his career while fighting his most personal and final battle.

Henden reflects on the extreme existence of being constantly on standby for war, while simultaneously navigating a life full of contrasts – from book releases and public recognition to the relentless progression of his illness. The film balances all these elements, always keeping the human being at its core.
This film is part of the Reprise program, in which five Kosmorama staff members select memorable cinema experiences from 2025. Industry coordinator Asbjørn Tiller chose Henden – Requiem for a Photographer, saying:
