Their already deep love has clearly intensified, though when we meet them on holiday in the stunning backdrop of Greece, the idyll shows signs of abating during a walk into the city, where various issues and emotions come to the surface. Jesse and Céline discuss what is left of the love when the initial tension and infatuation dwindles, wondering if they no longer have anything more to discover in each other. Their conversations are hurtful, candid and genuine, and patently recognisable to many. This is, nevertheless, an inspiring film about mature love and how to maintain it. Director Richard Linklater, along with actors Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke, create a realistic and complex ending to this much-loved love trilogy.
