Maren and Egon live a quiet life together in the Danish area of South Jutland, heading slowly towards old age and enjoying their days together with their two adult children. This idyll is compromised when a terrible tragedy strikes out of the blue.

Instead of focusing on the more dramatic events of the story, Petersen is more interested in the aftermath. He outlines how people process grief in a variety of ways, and that this can sometimes exacerbate the situation and create further challenges. Despite the weighty subject matter, this is a surprisingly beautiful film about how life goes on, even after the unthinkable has happened.
