The twelve-year-old Bailey lives in poverty with her half-brother Hunter and irresponsible father, Bug. One day, she meets a mysterious man who calls himself Bird. He seems to be a free-spirited and eccentric soul searching for his roots. It doesn't take long before Bailey and Bird form a strong bond, something that becomes crucial for both of them as they face their harsh surroundings.
The film portrays a world where the adults can barely take care of themselves, while the young protagonist must navigate toward adulthood without positive role models to look up to. Debut actress Nykiya Adams shines in the role of Bailey, while Barry Keoghan delivers a powerful performance as her unstable father.
Andrea Arnold, one of British cinema’s most acclaimed directors, returns with a new masterpiece. With unflinching social realism and heartfelt humanism, she has crafted a gripping and intense coming-of-age drama, filled with rich character portrayals and unexpected surprises.
