The film revolves around her sister Jin, who was hidden in a cardboard box at birth and left to die, as her parents could not keep another child. After a week, a relative took pity on her and we meet Jin as an adult who has now become a mother herself, though still intensely affected by her tough start to life.

We discover how difficult it is for her to reconcile with her parents who left her. It is a deeply personal film which tells of a traumatic period in Chinese society that has affected so many families.
