And Still I Sing 1

Kosmorama, in collaboration with Transform, presents three different films at Cinemateket as part of this year’s Transform Festival.

And Still I Sing is a powerful and moving documentary offering an intimate look at the lives of young women in Afghanistan who fight for freedom and the right to express themselves through song. The film shows how courage, hope, and solidarity can challenge oppression, even under the most difficult circumstances.

This is the story of Afghan women who use music as a weapon in their fight for their rights. Pop star and activist Aryana Sayeed mentors two young and aspiring singers, Zahra Elham and Sadiqa Madadgar. While both women take part in the popular television competition Afghan Star, their lives become increasingly difficult as the Taliban strengthens its grip on the country.

The documentary offers a glimpse into the dreams of these women and the enormous risks they take by speaking out publicly. It also shows how music becomes a symbol of freedom, identity, and resistance to restrictive social norms.

All of the women were forced into exile following the Taliban’s takeover. Elaha Soroor, who will perform at Dokkhuset with Kefaya on Thursday evening, also took part in the competition and was forced to flee to London. This screening is dedicated to her and to all Afghan women fighting for their rights and freedom.

Presented by Transform Trondheim World Festival in collaboration with Cinemateket Trondheim and Kosmorama.
