Mandagsfilmen on the 26. January is Left-Handed Girl.
About the film
From the creators of The Florida Project comes a touching and visually striking family portrait set against Taipei’s vibrant nightlife.
The film, which premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, introduces us to young I-Jing, who has moved to the big city of Taipei with her sister—on the threshold of adulthood—and their mother. The mother opens a small food stall at one of the city’s many night markets, the sister gets a job at a seedy kiosk, and neither venture goes particularly well.
I-Jing is largely left to fend for herself or placed with her traditional grandparents, who believe that her being left-handed means she is possessed by the devil. Family conflicts and traditional structures simmer beneath the surface as the story unfolds in visually impressive fashion, seen through the naïve perspective of the young girl.
