Mandagsfilmen: Growth of the Soil

Award-winning director Hans Petter Moland brings Knut Hamsun’s timeless masterpiece Growth of the Soil to the big screen, starring Herbert Nordrum (The Worst Person in the World) and Asta Kamma August (The Events at the Lake).

It is late autumn. Isak struggles to survive in the wilderness. One day, Inger appears over the mountain. What begins as a meeting born of necessity grows into love. In the unforgiving landscape, Isak and Inger fight to build a life together. Driven by their love, they build the farm Sellanraa from the ground up. When a dark secret comes to light, their love is put to the test.

The supporting cast includes Gard B. Eidsvold, Anders Baasmo, Oddgeir Thune, and Sjur Vatne Brean.

The film is based on Hamsun’s Nobel Prize-winning 1917 novel, one of the most important works in Norwegian cultural history. It is an epic story of love and humanity’s place in nature – both beautiful and unforgiving.
