Drapet på Benjamin Hermansen 1

Mandagsfilmen 28 September is Drapet på Benjamin Hermansen.

On a winter night in Holmlia, 15-year-old Benjamin loses his life – murdered by 19-year-old Joe Erling simply because of the color of his skin. A year later, Benjamin’s mother, Marit, faces every parent’s worst nightmare: the trial of the man who killed her son.

We follow Marit’s fight in court, while flashbacks to life before the tragedy weave two destinies together. Benjamin grows up surrounded by friends and a caring mother, while Joe Erling is shaped by an environment marked by neglect. Both live in areas of low socioeconomic status. Benjamin experiences police stigmatization, while Joe Erling becomes involved in the neo-Nazi Boot Boys movement in his search for a sense of security and belonging.

The film portrays the vulnerability of young boys trying to find themselves and a place where they belong – and how devastating the consequences can be when hatred is allowed to take root. Twenty-five years after the murder of Benjamin Hermansen, this is a story we still need to tell – about racism, loss, and the hope of reconciliation in a society that must not forget.
