Mandagsfilmen 1. June is Den fremmede (The Stranger). If you didn't watch this at Kosmorama 2026 here's your second chance!
François Ozon adapts Albert Camus’ classic novel with gripping intensity. Set in Algeria in 1938, the story follows the enigmatic Meursault, who has just lost his mother but appears strangely unaffected by grief. Drifting through life guided by chance, he is drawn into a fateful confrontation on a sun-drenched beach when his neighbour Raymond runs into trouble.
Ozon builds the narrative with cool precision, letting small moments accumulate toward an inevitable rupture. Shot in striking black-and-white, the harsh sunlight feels both blinding and threatening. Benjamin Voisin delivers a restrained and compelling performance as a man fundamentally out of sync with the world around him.
Faithful to the existential force of Camus’ novel, the film also introduces sharper political and human dimensions, making Meursault’s detachment all the more unsettling.
Every Monday at 6:00 PM, you can watch a quality film in collaboration between Trondheim Cinema and Kosmorama.
