Culinary Cinema // The Double Life of Véronique with Rive Gauche

The Polish singer Weronika and the French music teacher Véronique live parallel lives — they resemble each other in every way, yet remain unaware of one another’s existence. When death claims one of them, the other feels an inexplicable grief, as if she has lost a part of herself.

The film explores themes of identity, fate, and intuition, with an atmosphere that is both dreamlike and deeply moving. Irène Jacob plays both roles with warmth and mystery. Cinematographer Slawomir Idziak’s camerawork transforms everyday moments into pure poetry, enhanced by Zbigniew Preisner’s beautiful score.

The Double Life of Véronique is a film that seduces more than it explains. It is a sensual and hypnotic experience that reminds us we may not be as alone in the world as we think.

After the screening, we will cross the Bybroa to Rive Gauche on Bakklandet, where a lovely meal inspired by the film will be served. You will be able to purchase something to drink at the table.

You may also watch the film without the dining experience at the regular ticket price (or with a punch card/festival pass). These tickets will be released in February.
