Edith Carlmar was Norway’s first female film director. During Kosmorama, the Edith Carlmar Award is presented to a professional female filmmaker in Norway who has demonstrated integrity, a fearless ability to innovate, and a willingness to break boundaries. The award has existed since 2010 and honors Carlmar as a pioneering film director. This year’s winner is filmmaker Lilja Ingolfsdottir. She receives a grant of NOK 50,000 as well as a reprint of an original Edith Carlmar film poster.

The Edith Carlmar Award is presented in collaboration with SpareBank 1 SMN.

Kosmorama celebrates the award by hosting a dedicated symposium in her name on Thursday, 5 March from 2:00–4:30 p.m. at the Cinematheque in Trondheim. The symposium will focus on this year’s award winner through a conversation, as well as on women’s filmmaking today.

A detailed program will follow.

The symposium is a collaboration between Kosmorama, the Mid-Norwegian Film Centre, and the Cinematheque, and is also supported by Fritt Ord.
