Norwegian Dream, directed by Leiv Igor Devold, recipient of the NTNU Film Prize 2023

Igor will give a brief introduction to the making of the film before the screening.

Norwegian Dream is a true Trøndelag production, filmed in Frøya, Hitra, Orkanger, and Trondheim. Robert is 19 years old and has traveled from Poland to a coastal community outside Trondheim to pay off his debts. He starts working at a fish processing plant, where he meets his colleague Ivar, an aspiring drag queen, and develops feelings for him. Fearing that his Polish co-workers will find out, Robert keeps the relationship secret. Soon, he is faced with a dilemma when a heated labor dispute breaks out and Ivar supports the workers. Robert must decide which of his Norwegian dreams matters most to him.

Director Leiv Igor Devold, who is Norwegian-Polish himself, has created a poignant drama about the importance of accepting yourself. Hubert Milkowski and Karl Bekele Steinland shine in the lead roles with convincing performances.

Leiv Igor Devold is a director and associate professor at NTNU, where he works, among other things, with artistic research in film directing. He has a background in numerous documentaries and short films. He received the NTNU Film Prize in 2023, the same year he made his feature film debut with Norwegian Dream. The jury highlighted the film as a major milestone in Trøndelag film production: it was the first feature film made entirely in Trøndelag, with a director living and working in the region and the Trøndelag-based company Spætt Film AS as its main producer.
