When Sujo is just four years old, he witnesses his Sicario father being killed by his own cartel associates. Thankfully, the poor little boy is hidden away and cared for by two aunts, growing up alongside his cousins. However, the violent reality of his past continues to haunt him as he grows older. The question is whether Sujo will be able to defy fate and carve out a different life for himself.

Directors Astrid Rondero and Fernanda Valadez skilfully combine an engaging narrative structure and highly expressive filmmaking with brutal social realism and a deeply sensitive perspective, resulting in a truly remarkable film. The same team behind the outstanding Identifying Features, which was showcased at Kosmorama in 2021, and have surpassed themselves once again here.

Sujo had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival last year, where it won the Jury Prize for Best International Fiction Film.
