Poly Styrene, real name Marianne Joan Elliott-Said, was one of England's most pioneering punk rockers. She was the front woman in the punk band X-Ray Spex. She was only 19 years old when she decided to form the band after being inspired at a Sex Pistols’ gig.

The young and rebellious punk rocker became involved in feminist issues and the fight against racism, while at the same time attracting attention with her unconventional style. She gradually began to struggle with mental issues which would go on to affect her life and career.

With the use of Styrene’s personal diary notes, read by the actress Ruth Negga, the film gets up close and personal with this groundbreaking artist.

Directors Paul Sng and Celeste Bell, Styrene’s daughter, have made this intimate documentary about one of England's bravest and most uncompromising punk rockers. Who exactly was Poly Styrene and who was the woman hiding behind the bizarre stage name?
